Items bought in the run-up to Christmas may be covered by home insurance policies, Britons have been advised.

The British Insurance Brokers Association observes that the levels of cover offered in home insurance are typically greater than can be obtained in travel insurance.

And the news could prove useful for anyone planning to visit family or friends over the winter months and considering arranging specific insurance.

"It is important to make sure all your Christmas items - your spending money and any items that you've brought them - are covered," comments technical and corporate affairs executive Graeme Trudgill.

For consumers looking to protect their possessions in the long-term, homeowner loans could provide the necessary funds to purchase insurance cover.

Previous research conducted by Halifax Travel Insurance revealed that some £727 million worth of presents are taken overseas by Britons in the run-up to Christmas.

But by opting out of baggage cover on travel insurance policies, Mr Trudgill points out that Britons with home insurance could save up to 15 per cent on their premiums.

This could leave them with more money to meet repayments on borrowing such as homeowner loans.ADNFCR-1287-ID-18334217-ADNFCR
