Not all of a traveller's possessions may be covered by insurance, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba).

The industry body asserts that policies - especially those obtained online - come with limits which may mean high-value items are not covered.

This could leave Britons needing to replace expensive goods such as digital cameras, with secured loans a possible means of funding such purchases.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive for Biba, comments: "Some of the cover for the products online is incredibly low - very low limits on your money, on your baggage, on your medical expenses."

"Is your policy going to extend to the amount that you're taking? Some of the online policies are very cheap and not that good."

Research from Halifax Travel Insurance suggests the problem could increase in the run-up to Christmas as the average policy claim rises by 48 per cent over the festive period.

For Britons who find their policy does not cover a loss they have incurred, secured loans might offer a solution.ADNFCR-1287-ID-18336315-ADNFCR
