Taking a sympathetic approach to restoring a period property can have a twofold effect on personal finances, it has been observed.

A spokesperson for the National Home Improvement Council claims that some modern reproductions could prove a more effective installation than features from the wrong period.

His comments may be of particular interest to Britons looking to minimise their expenditure while elevating the value of homeowner loan which may be taken out using the property as equity.

Andrew Leech, a consultant to the council, explains: "Many people make the mistake of putting Georgian-style windows in Victorian or Edwardian terraced houses."

"There are some appropriate window and door styles that are made in modern materials," he adds.

Such fittings typically last longer than genuine period features, with lower maintenance costs, he concludes.

And any increase on the value of the house could then be realised in the form of a greater maximum amount of funds obtained through homeowner loans.ADNFCR-1287-ID-18356955-ADNFCR
