Almost a third of British couples admit to hiding financial secrets from their loved ones, it has been revealed.

Recently published research from Cater Allen reveals that 30 per cent of Britons are currently hiding a financial secret from their partner.

It also found that 44 per cent of Britons have lied about the cost of a purchase to their partner, with 27 per cent of women not telling the truth about the cost of clothes and 28 per cent of men fibbing about the price of a gadget.

Richard Dunn, managing director of the firm, said: "While it has traditionally been considered bad manners to talk about money, this research shows that modern Britons are not comfortable with being upfront about their financial affairs too."

He added that individuals aged 25-34 are most likely to keep financial secrets from their partners - which could include information about secured loans - though the secret mentioned as being the most popular is a secret stash of cash.

In May 2007, Scottish Widows reported that Britons would rather talk about health and sex than money, with nine out of ten consumers keeping their salary a secret from their friends.ADNFCR-1287-ID-18360939-ADNFCR
