There is no reason why consumers should be unaware of the value of a property, it has been claimed.

Paul Holmes, chief executive officer of mortgage broker Firstrung, observes that there is much wider access to housing market information than has historically been the case.

His comments could prove interesting to households wishing to determine what level of homeowner loan they can obtain access to but unsure of how to do so.

"During the last downturn in house prices, we didn't have all the information at our fingertips that we now have," he explains.

"You can find through searches on the land registry or net house prices what similar houses have gone for."

Mr Holmes adds that about 30 per cent of potential house buyers remain "priced out" of the market.

With property values correspondingly high, now may be the perfect time for many individuals to determine whether they should take out a homeowner loan.ADNFCR-1287-ID-18363267-ADNFCR
