There are ways of saving money which do not require significant initial expenditure, it has been claimed.

Smart Works, a Global Action Plan initiative funded by the London Development Agency, highlights a number of methods via which bills may be reduced.

Business adviser to the initiative Sarah Van Erp comments: "Often, low-cost things like upgrading your lighting can save money."

"Old, inefficient tungsten lighting wastes up to 75 per cent of the energy used on heat," she adds.

Consumers with financial problems could welcome the advice as it could help them to meet the monthly repayments on borrowing such as debt consolidation loans.

And the advantages could be twofold, Ms Van Erp observes, as the reduction in heat production could also lower the cost of air conditioning.

This could add to the benefits of introducing low-cost energy saving lighting for consumers with debt consolidation loans or other monthly repayments on borrowing.ADNFCR-1287-ID-18364690-ADNFCR
