According to the latest study by bank First Direct, the UK spends an astounding £74 billion on the latest gizmos, with products spanning from mobile phones to computers.

In order to keep up with the pace of technology, households may be interested in taking out a secured loan to improve their home.

One item that is of particular appeal to British consumers is a new LCD TV set, with televisions topping the list for the most money spent on any item, with a staggering £29 billion pounds handed over the counter by the UK as a whole.

With the average UK house containing 16 gadgets, consumers may want to take out a secured loan to stay abreast with the continuous churn of new technology.

Meanwhile, insurance provider Direct Line has found that Brits are expected to spend an average of £385 each on Christmas presents for their friends and family.
