The anti-fraud measures extended to credit card customers can make plastic the best way to purchase items worth more than £100, it has been claimed.

Government-funded advisory service Consumer Direct suggests that spending three figures online can be made safer by using a credit card.

For Britons who take the advice but are unable to clear their credit card balance, debt consolidation loans could be the best way to get back on a firm financial footing.

A spokesperson for Consumer Direct comments: "If you're concerned, check your bank and credit card statements regularly."

He adds that under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, Britons are promised "extra consumer protection" as the legislation "makes credit card companies jointly and equally liable".

As a result, any fraudulent transactions should be refunded directly to the account holder.

Where such fraud results in interest being charged, debt consolidation loans might help to minimise the impact on an individual's bank balance.ADNFCR-1287-ID-18384351-ADNFCR
