Homeowners may face financial loss while dealing with active toddlers, it is claimed.

Halifax notes that the boisterous nature of young children may be hazardous to properties, with a survey conducted by the provider indicating that child-related damage runs up an annual bill of £122 million.

Some 68 per cent of parents surveyed by the company cited spilled juice, paint and food as a problem, while 65 per cent claim their troublesome toddler has defaced walls with crayons or other art materials.

And 29 per cent of households have watched as a young child destroys a mobile phone, with three per cent citing damaged computer equipment as an issue.

"Raising children is expensive enough without having to find additional money to replace items that small children have accidentally damaged," says Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance.

A homeowner loan is one option for people who find themselves in need of a financial boost and hold equity in property.

PayPal has warned against obtaining loans from friends and family when in financial difficulty.
