The number of people who are able to commit to raising their children full time is at its lowest level in 15 years, uSwitch reports.

According to the price comparison service, more than one million parents have been forced back into work after childbirth because of limited household incomes.

If money was no object, 71 per cent of parents said that they would prefer to stay at home to raise their kids.

Parents are reminded by uSwitch of a number of entitlements that could reduce the financial strain placed on a newly enlarged household.

Suggestions included an early years education entitlement which could reduce the need for a full-time nanny and child and working tax credits.

Furthermore, uSwitch reminded parents that they are entitled to up to 13 weeks unpaid leave per year to look after their children. Those wishing to cover costs during this time may wish to consider a secured loan.

Earlier this month, Clarissa Williams, the new president of the National Association of Head Teachers, said that parents should be paid to look after children to alleviate the financial burden of looking after young ones.ADNFCR-1287-ID-18592720-ADNFCR
