Football fans travelling to Moscow for the Champions League final have been issued with some advice from M&S Travel Money.

According to the financial services provider, UK consumers heading to Russia for the event should ensure they make the most of their money.

The average rate for a hotel room is £236, while an increase in demand for the 35,000 rooms in Moscow is likely to heighten the need for financial prudence, the company recommends.

Among the pieces of advice issued to fans are sorting out money in advance, as rubles are not usually in stock at bureaux de change and the currency is not widely available outside Russia.

Withdrawing money from ATMs abroad may also incur charges, the company states.

"If fans have trouble getting Russian currency we recommend they take US dollars or euros which they can change in at banks or exchange offices in Moscow," says head of the company Fraser Millar.

MoneyExpert.com advice issued in August 2007 recommended that secured loans could be a good way to fund a holiday.
